Ippodo Matcha To-Go Packets Details
The Matcha – To – Go Packs by Ippodo are perfect for those who want to carry their matcha with them while they are out of the house. This medium-bodied blend is a similar grade to Ikuyo and has a sweet scent with the notes of earthy cacao and toasted nuts. The blend is primarily vegetal with an abundance of umami and strong bitter which combination works great when mixed with milk. The green color of this blend is deep and the sweetness is quite nice at the end with only very little astringency. At 2 grams each, throw these light packs in your bag or share them with friends and the people you love and want to introduce matcha to.
The heritage of the Ippodo goes back 300 years to 1717 when Rihei Watanabe opened a shop called Omiya for selling tea and ceramics. The shop has been renamed in 1846 to Ippodo, which means “preserve one” The name was given by prince Yamashina who drank Ippodo tea and wanted the shop to keep one tradition: giving high-quality tea. This family business is currently owned by the 6th and 7th generations.
By using 300 years of knowledge, Ippodo’s method of production which is very laborious, includes the picking done by hand, growing in the shade, and grinding with stones tea leaves which gives them their full-bodied and umami-rich flavor. The flavour is authentic merging the rich umami taste with a slight and refined sweetness is the final product. The concept of ichi-go ichi-e, which means one opportunity, one meeting, one moment, and is a wisdom taught in the traditional Japanese tea ceremony, is the idea that is conveyed with every brew made by Ippodo.
